If you live within driving distance of St. Louis, you need to visit my adopted home town. St. Charles was founded in 1769 and has an amazing historic district along the Missouri River.  Historic downtown St. Charles has a wonderful range of shops, restaurants and historic sites, many of which are housed in original 18th and 19th centuries buildings.

Start your visit in the 200 Block of South Main Street where you’ll find the First State Capitol Interpretive Center and the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.IMG_3793Tours of the First Missouri State Capitol are offered throughout the day and are well worth the $4.50 fee.

Simply walking up and down Main Street is a beautiful experience.  The shop and home owners go out of their way to add beauty everywhere you look.

If strolling up and down Main Street shopping and reading the historic markers works up an appetite, there are no fewer than 30 places to grab a bite to eat.  You’ll find everything from a place to grab a quick snack to fine dining options.  There’s even an option for your favorite canine companion!
